Hello! We have launched new web-site, and blog. In this blog we would like to share our experience and knowledge inside and outside of company, document our practices and post technical tricks. Also, we would like to show educational and non-commercial projects, that we are working on.

In City Media AS we are solving various tasks daily, and we would like to share our experience.

We are working on internal projects, educational projects and non-commercial projects. In July 2010 we have signed an agreement with SINTEF (Norwegian: Stiftelsen for industriell og teknisk forskning), largest independent research organization in Scandinavia and KhNURE (Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics), one of the oldest Universities of Technologies in Ukraine with over 12000 students and 30 scientific centers.

What is Ad-hoc Distribution of iPhone Application?

We usually provide our customers with the Ad-hoc distribution of iPhone Application for software preview purposes and beta testing. Ad-hoc distribution allows trying out applications before they are available through the iTunes App Store and have been approved for general distribution and can be purchased, downloaded and installed to your device.

The procedure of installing iPhone ad-hoc distributed application comprises such steps:
* Sending us the UDID
* Receiving two files: a provision profile file and an application file
* Downloading files
* Unzipping both files
* Installation

How to install iPhone ad-hoc distributed application on Mac/PC?

The procedure of installing iPhone ad-hoc distributed application assumes that you have already provided us with your Unique Device Identifier and we have created a provisioning profile for your device.

For installing the application on iPhone, please, follow these instructions:
1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac/PC with the USB cable so that iTunes can sync with it and find your iPhone in the Devices section.

2. Download the AppName.app and .mobileprovision files and save to a convenient location.

Note: If an existing version of this application is installed, find it in the Applications section of your iPhone and delete.

3. Unzip files: For a Mac: double-click on the file to extract it into the same directory. For the PC: right-click on the file and select Extract All, accepting the defaults.

4. Click the Apply button in the bottom button bar. The process of syncing takes place. Now the application is successfully installed on your iPhone. Try out the newly installed application and let the thing do its magic!

What is the Unique Device Identification?

The Unique Device Identification is intended to assign a unique identifier to your device. The Unique Device Identifier (UDID) is used to install ad-hoc distributed applications to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. UDID is Apple’s version of a serial number. It is guaranteed to be unique and is associated only with your device. The UDID is a sequence of 40 letters and numbers and looks like this:

The UDID is a necessary precondition of downloading ad-hoc distributed applications to your device. To get your ad-hoc distributed application, copy it to the clipboard and send it to us.

For sending UDID, please, follow these instructions:
1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac /PC with the USB cable.
2. Launch iTunes and find your iPhone in the Devices section.
3. Click on the Summary tab.

4. Click on the Serial Number field.
5. On clicking on the Serial Number field, it changes to the Identifier field.
6. Press Command-C (Mac) or Control-C (PC) to copy the identifier to the clipboard.
7. Paste the identifier to a message using Command-V (Mac) or Control-V (Windows) and sent it to us.
